General Summary
The Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction Graduate Assistant supports peer educator development, outreach, and ongoing program initiatives across tutoring and Supplemental Instruction services.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Peer Educator Training and Support
- Assist with onboarding new tutors and Supplemental Instruction Leaders (SILs) and co-develop and facilitate training session
- Serve as a mentor to peer educators by providing guidance and maintaining clear communication regarding expectations and schedules
Outreach and Student Engagement
- Support outreach efforts for tutoring and SI services, including classroom visits, tabling, and the creation of promotional materials
- Contribute to social media and digital communications to increase awareness of academic support services
Program Development and Collaboration
- Assist with special projects related to tutoring and SI initiatives and program development
- Collaborate with Holman Success Center staff and programs as needed
From this assistantship, you will gain knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience in multiple aspects of student support.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write professional emails and create clear, polished materials. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Comfort with learning and using technology (e.g., Canvas, scheduling systems,
and digital communication tools). Interest in tutoring, peer education, and student success. Willingness to learn, grow, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, teaching, or peer education. Experience facilitating workshops, trainings, or group learning experiences. Familiarity with diverse student populations and inclusive practices in educational settings. Knowledge of Eastern Michigan University and its student support services. Ability to commit to two consecutive years in the position.
Special Instructions:
A Graduate Assistantship covers Fall and Winter semesters. Eligibility for a GA position includes the following:
You must be registered for at least 6 graduate credit hours each semester
Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in all courses
Show satisfactory progress toward program completion
This 100% position carries a stipend of $10,200 per year with a 20-hour-per-week work commitment. You would also receive a tuition scholarship for up to 18 credit hours per year (9 graduate-level credit hours per semester). Fees are not covered by this award.
