Description
Position OverviewThis position functions as a Network Operations Center (NOC) operator, providing 24/7 monitoring and operational response for enterprise systems, job scheduling platforms, and data center infrastructure. This role ensures the continuity of mission-critical production workloads by overseeing automated schedules, managing job exceptions (job aborts, restarts, force completions, and/or cancellations), and maintaining rigorous job documentation.
As a key member of the integrated monitoring team, this position interfaces with campus constituents and technical staff to monitor, troubleshoot, and report on the health of the Data Center and the Enterprise Network. This position is essential to incident management, emergency communications, and disaster recovery operations.
Job Description
50% - Enterprise Job Scheduling Management:
- Automation Operations & Development: Develops, maintains and implements automation workflows and scripts to streamline university processes.
- Schedule Management & Integrity: Maintains accurate production schedules and proactively communicates deadlines and status updates to appropriate departments.
- Workflow Coordination: Monitors and supports automated data workflows between internal university systems and external vendors.
- Troubleshooting & Process Optimization: Diagnose and resolve scheduling errors and job failures. Identify redundant manual tasks and transition them into automated solutions.
- Incident Follow-Up & Resolution: Performs follow-up on job scheduler-related incidents and assists with the resolution, collaborating with both internal & external customers.
- Reporting & Documentation: Creates reports using various job scheduler tools for internal use as well as for customer requests and leadership.
- Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with team members to design and enhance scripts to improve various processes, minimize manual interventions, and increase productivity.
- Monitoring & Event Response: Monitor and respond to data center environmental, mechanical, security, network, and server monitoring systems, assuring the health of KU's Data Center and Enterprise Network.
- Operational Documentation: Regularly review, maintain, and update existing Data Center Operations documentation, processes, and procedures to ensure they align with industry best practices.
- Incident Management & Escalation: Troubleshoot operational incidents as they occur, apply structured problem-solving techniques, escalating as necessary, coordinating with other IT teams as needed.
- Disaster Recovery Support: Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, exercises, and execution.
- Service Alert/Major Incident Management: Serve as the Service Alert/Major Incident Manager during incidents, following documented incident and communication processes.
- Professional Development: Stay current with the industry trends and advancements with job scheduling, DC operations, and IT security.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- This position is required, on a rotating basis, to be on standby status.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of relevant experience.
- Two (2) years of experience in monitoring in an enterprise atmosphere.
- Two (2) years of customer service experience.
- Demonstrated strong written communication skills, as evidenced in application materials.
