JOB DESCRIPTIONMH: House Support- ( Unscheduled, Nights) -
Job Summary: The House Supervisor provides clinical, administrative, financial and human resource management and supervision for the hospital outside of normal business hours (evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts). Directs and coordinates patient placement, throughput and staffing throughout LLUMC-Murrieta. Directs and facilitates admissions, transfers and discharges and makes ultimate decisions when necessary regarding patient placement and patient flow. Coordinates services for patients and staff according to hospital and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines on a hospital-wide basis for the designated shift and serves as a clinical and administrative resource to both staff and management. Responds to all patient emergency situations including code blue, rapid response, internal and external disasters and provides hands on care as necessary. Achieves and maintains credibility with colleagues, administration and the multidisciplinary healthcare team and coordinates clinical nursing activities and efficient utilization of resources. Exhibits managerial and leadership competencies in critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal interactions, risk management, materials managements and talent services management. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Contributes to the efficiency of the organization by demonstrating fiscal responsibility during each shift. Demonstrates a commitment to excellence and the exceeding of customer expectations by modeling leadership behavior in the context of institutional values, empowerment, alignment, creativity and education. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required. Master's Degree in Nursing or related healthcare field preferred. Minimum of five years of supervisory/charge experience in acute care hospital required. Minimum of two years house supervisor experience preferred. Intensive care or emergency nursing experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Ability to multitask and make critical decisions in highly stressful situations required. Must be able to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Demonstrated competencies in clinical nursing, leadership, supervision, management and communications skills required. Skillfully adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment. Able to read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications: Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association required. National certification in nursing specialty preferred.
