Description
OverviewThe Head Golf Professional is responsible for the leadership, administration, and daily operation of the Club's golf
department. The position oversees all aspects of the golf experience, including Golf Shop operations, outside
services, instruction, tournaments, member programs, merchandising, handicapping, and tee-time management.
The Head Golf Professional is a visible and engaged presence within the membership and is responsible for
maintaining a welcoming, professional, and service-oriented culture. This position provides leadership to the golf
staff, manages departmental finances and operations, and works closely with Club leadership and other
departments to enhance the overall member experience.
Experience Required
CERTIFICATIONS
- PGA Class A Certification
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- PGA Class A Certification and Member in good standing.
- Bachelor's degree (BA); or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive golf operations experience, preferably in a private club environment.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of golf operations, tournament management, instruction, merchandising, and member relations.
- Experience managing budgets, expenses, and inventory.
- Strong knowledge of the Rules of Golf and handicap administration.
- Experience with GHIN, Jonas POS, Microsoft Office, and other golf-industry technology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
Essential Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are representative of the primary responsibilities of the position. Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
Golf Operations & Member Experience
- Direct the daily operation of the golf department in accordance with Club policies, standards, and service philosophy.
- Maintain a visible presence with members and guests and foster strong, positive relationships.
- Oversee Golf Shop, outside services, instruction, tournaments, member programs, handicapping, and tee-time operations.
- Respond professionally to member concerns and use feedback to continually improve the golf experience.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of Club policies, procedures, and the Rules of Golf.
Golf Shop & Merchandising
- Manage Golf Shop operations, ensuring exceptional service, presentation, and organization.
- Oversee merchandise purchasing, pricing, inventory, displays, sales, and inventory turnover.
- Oversee and enforce golf shop policies, procedures, fee structures to ensure the safekeeping of assets, inventory and resources.
- Monitor Golf Shop financial performance and develop strategies to maximize sales and member satisfaction.
Staff Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and develop golf department staff.
- Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and evaluations.
- Promote a positive team environment built on professionalism, communication, accountability, and service.
Outside Golf Services
- Direct Outside Golf Services to ensure members and guests receive professional and welcoming service.
- Oversee the practice facility, golf cart fleet, club cleaning and storage, club repair, and bag services.
- Regularly inspect golf facilities and communicate maintenance or operational concerns to the appropriate Club personnel.
Instruction & Player Development
- Direct and develop the Club's golf instruction program.
- Provide individual and group instruction and conduct clinics for players of varying skill levels.
- Develop programs that encourage participation among women, men, juniors, beginners, and other member groups.
- Maintain current knowledge of instruction, club fitting, equipment, and golf industry trends.
Tournaments & Events
- Develop, organize, and administer the Club's annual tournament and golf event calendar.
- Oversee registration, communications, pairings, tee sheets, scoring, rules, prizes, and post-event procedures.
- Coordinate VWGA, Member-Guest, Club Championship, Invitational, Couples, and other Club golf events.
- Continually evaluate and improve the Club's tournament and event programming.
Financial & Administrative Management
- Develop and manage the annual golf department budget in conjunction with Club leadership.
- Monitor departmental expenses, revenues, inventory, and overall financial performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, participation, and departmental revenue.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to golf operations.
- Review and approve daily timecard activity and paid time off requests.
- Review and resolve membership billing discrepancies to ensure accurate and timely member statements.
Tee Times, Handicapping & Technology
- Oversee the Club's tee-time system and monitor utilization and member access.
- Prepare an annual tee-time analysis and recommend improvements when appropriate.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of GHIN, Jonas POS, tournament management systems, Microsoft Office, and other applicable technology.
- Ensure accurate tournament, handicap, scoring, and financial records.
Professional & Industry Relations
- Maintain active membership and good standing with the PGA of America.
- Represent Vasari Country Club professionally with the PGA of America, other clubs, golf organizations, manufacturers, and industry partners.
- Participate in appropriate professional development and continuing education.
Other Responsibilities
- Play golf regularly with members and guests to build relationships and better understand the member experience.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
- Promote the game of golf and the Club's golf programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Club leadership.
