Description
The Director of Marketing Business Development, and Recruiting is responsible for strengthening the firm’s overall brand, supporting attorneys in developing and maintaining client relationships, and leading the firm’s recruiting efforts. This role requires a self-motivated, detail- oriented professional who is an independent thinker and collaborative team player. The ideal candidate is outgoing, creative, and proactive, with a willingness to contribute new ideas and drive initiatives forward.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing business development coaching and strategic and tactical assistance to attorneys to help develop their practices
- Support profile-raising efforts, including writing and maintaining current content on Firm website Work with attorneys to communicate firm’s successes to clients and prospects
- Meet with firm’s leadership to discuss status of business development, marketing, and recruiting efforts and upcoming plans
- Coordinate responses to RFQs and RFPs, pitches, and other communications to clients and prospective clients, in coordination with firm’s attorneys
- Plan and coordinate meetings between firm’s attorneys and prospects or clients
- Develop and curate content for and manage distribution of firm’s client and marketing mailings/newsletters
- Develop and manage a system for attorney award nominations
- Gather intelligence on local legal industry trends and provide insights into the competitive landscape as well as explore opportunities
- Oversee media relations and digital marketing initiatives including building targeted media lists, developing media materials, and conducting media outreach
- Identify and secure opportunities for firm’s attorneys to serve as media spokespeople on relevant issues, write bylined articles for key media outlets, and to speak at conferences and events
- Promote news and announcements related to significant firm wins, new hires, major clients, and other noteworthy items on website and social media platforms
- Manage firm’s events calendar
- Plan and coordinate in-house client events and seminars
- Plan and coordinate receptions/events/sponsorships at various conferences
- Manage firm attendance, participation, and charitable sponsorships/contributions for client events and any other charitable entities
- Research and secure promotional products for events and gifts
- Gather information and collaborate with attorneys regarding membership and board opportunities in local business, trade, community and charitable organizations
- Develop and maintain mailing lists for firm events and marketing communication
- Assist with developing business development and marketing budgets and tracking expenses
- Assist with additional projects as needed
- Oversee law school student and lateral attorney recruiting process from application to onboarding, including acting as lead contact for all recruiters and law schools
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, or similar major
- 3-5 or more years’ experience in marketing, business development, event management and/or communications for a professional services firm – preferably a law firm or professional services firm
- Demonstrated experience with business development strategy in a professional services organization; possesses solid business acumen and experience in analyzing business and legal trends and developing programs, as well as the ability to synthesize complex information
- Demonstrated success in leading marketing and business development initiatives; experience with litigation or disputes practice a plus
- Strong writing, presentation, and relationship-building skills
- Excellent ability to represent the firm in a favorable and businesslike manner
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
