Description
OverviewHighland Woods Golf & Country Club is seeking an accomplished, energetic, and highly visible PGA Professional to serve as its next Director of Golf. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced leader who is passionate about delivering outstanding member experiences while guiding one of Southwest Florida's premier bundled golf communities through its next chapter of continued success.
The successful candidate will join a Club that has made significant investments in its facilities, amenities, and overall member experience while maintaining a culture centered on hospitality, teamwork, fiscal responsibility, and continuous improvement. As a member of the Club's senior leadership team, the Director of Golf will work closely with the General Manager, Golf Course Superintendent, fellow department leaders, Golf Committee, and Board of Trustees to ensure the golf operation continues to meet the high expectations of Highland Woods' active and engaged membership.
Highland Woods is seeking a relationship-driven leader who genuinely enjoys interacting with members, developing staff, and fostering a positive, welcoming golf culture. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding communication skills, sound business judgment, operational excellence, and a visible, approachable leadership style that inspires confidence among both members and team members. This individual will be expected to build meaningful relationships throughout the Club while creating an environment where members feel valued, connected, and proud to call Highland Woods home.
Beyond overseeing a successful golf operation, the next Director of Golf will have the opportunity to help shape the future of golf at Highland Woods. This position offers the ability to influence programming, enhance member engagement, develop future leaders, and continually elevate the overall golf experience while preserving the welcoming culture that defines the Club.
The Director of Golf reports directly to the General Manager and serves as a key member of the Club's senior leadership team.
Experience Required
A minimum of 5-10 years of progressive leadership experience within private club golf operations.
Current Directors of Golf, Head Golf Professionals, First Assistant Professionals, or Lead Assistant Professionals from well-respected private clubs are encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated success leading golf operations in a member-focused private club environment.
Outstanding leadership, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
A proven ability to recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, merchandising, inventory control, and operational analysis.
Experience working collaboratively with Boards of Directors, Golf Committees, and senior leadership.
A highly visible, approachable leadership style with a genuine passion for hospitality and member service.
The ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining professionalism and composure.
Essential Responsibilities
Golf Operations
• Provide leadership and oversight of all daily golf operations while maintaining the highest standards of service and professionalism.
• Establish, implement, and uphold golf policies, procedures, and operating standards consistent with the Club's mission and values.
• Serve as the primary liaison between the golf operation and the membership.
• Maintain a highly visible presence throughout the golf operation and actively engage with members on a daily basis.
• Respond to member questions, concerns, and feedback promptly, professionally, and with sound judgment.
• Ensure efficient management of tee sheet operations, pace of play, starting procedures, and outside golf services.
• Provide leadership and direction for all golf instruction programs while promoting participation and delivering a first-class instructional experience.
Member Programming & Events
• Plan, organize, and execute an annual calendar of member tournaments, leagues, couples' events, member-guest events, clinics, and special golf programs.
• Ensure all events are professionally organized, well communicated, and executed to the highest standards.
• Develop innovative programming that increases member participation and engagement throughout the year.
Leadership & Team Development
• Recruit, hire, train, mentor, schedule, and evaluate all golf operations personnel.
• Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Establish clear performance expectations while providing coaching and professional development opportunities.
• Promote a positive and respectful work environment built on strong communication and collaboration.
Golf & Financial Management
• Oversee all golf shop operations, including merchandising, inventory management, purchasing, pricing strategies, vendor relationships, and retail presentation.
• Develop and manage departmental operating budgets while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
• Monitor financial performance, retail sales, participation levels, and operational metrics to support strategic planning and continuous improvement.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
• Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to coordinate course availability, maintenance schedules, tournament preparation, and member communications.
• Collaborate with Food & Beverage, Membership, Communications, Facilities, and Administration to deliver a seamless and exceptional club experience.
• Support Club-wide initiatives and special events while promoting teamwork across all departments.
• Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to all Club safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
