Position: Director of Bar Services
Status: Full-Time
Description: The Ohio State Bar Association (Ohio Bar) seeks to hire a full-time Director of Bar Services. This leadership role is responsible for driving member engagement strategy, overseeing Ohio Bar committees and sections, and leading the development and delivery of member-facing programming, including continuing legal education (CLE). Reporting to the Chief of Staff & General Counsel, this position serves as a key leader in advancing member engagement and value across the organization.

We are a fun, hardworking group of approximately 35 employees from diverse backgrounds. We are passionate about our members—Ohio attorneys, judges, paralegals, and legal administrators—and the justice system. We use our talents to help our members serve clients and communities across Ohio. On any given day, you might find us producing statewide CLE programs, collaborating with courts and law schools, advocating before the Ohio General Assembly or U.S. Congress, advancing access to justice initiatives, or hosting members at one of our popular tailgate events.

This individual is energized by member engagement, program design, and relationship building and is comfortable with public speaking. The individual also possesses the ability to influence volunteer leaders and drive outcomes and is motivated by the opportunity to serve Ohio’s legal community.
What the Role Involves
- The work will vary, but will include a mix of the following:
- Responsible for driving member-engagement strategy across Ohio Bar committees, sections, and CLE programming.
- Own engagement outcomes, including participation, content development, and program effectiveness.
- Play a key role in strengthening retention, expanding member value, and supporting revenue-generating activities.
- Partner with committee and section leadership to design and execute high-impact engagement strategies, including meetings, initiatives, and member-facing programming.
- Design and implement systems that ensure consistent, high-quality communication and visibility across the organization and its committees, sections, and broader membership.
- Drive engagement and monitor appropriate use of online communities as a core member benefit and touchpoint.
- Leading and working with chairs of committees and sections to develop and implement annual action plans that optimize and enhance member engagement through committee and section activities and online communities.
- Working with select committees and sections to enhance the Ohio Bar’s content and practice library.
- Assisting the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Government Affairs with keeping committee and section members informed of legislative activities in their practice areas.
- Planning and facilitating member-engagement events and activities including networking programs, community service opportunities, and other interesting and fun events.
- Working with committees and sections to develop and plan CLE programming as well as facilitating the development and delivery of CLE programming, including curriculum strategy, speaker recruitment, and program performance.
- Reporting committee and section participation, compliance with best practices, successes, and other key performance indicators to Ohio Bar leadership.
What the Preferred Qualifications Are
Education & Experience
- Juris Doctor
- Proven working experience in project management in a fast-paced, member-focused environment.
- Legal experience that would assist in working with committees and sections on their practice-area topics and content.
- Experience in business management, public relations, or communications.
- Background in use of social media and understanding of web technologies.
Skills
- Organizational and strategic analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to influence volunteer leaders and drive results as well as effectively promote the Ohio Bar to stakeholders at all levels.
- Self-motivated and high-energy, with a desire to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams), Zoom, SurveyMonkey, Google Forms, and similar tools.
- Adept at managing and leading meetings, online and in person.
- Capable of traveling to locations across Ohio as needed.

What the Compensation Looks Like
The expected salary range for this position is $100,000–$125,000 annually. Individual compensation within this range is determined based on job-related skills, experience, and relevant education.
