Communications/Media SpecialistCommunications / Media Specialist
Position Status: Contingent upon contract award.
Position Summary
Develop strategic, scientific, and public health communications that translate DNPAO evidence, program activities, findings, and impacts into clear, culturally appropriate, accessible products for varied audiences. This role directly supports DNPAO's Office of Policy, Partnerships, and Communications and related program teams by developing clear, accurate, culturally appropriate, and audience-specific materials on nutrition, physical activity, obesity prevention, arthritis, Tribal health, ECE, and FHWP initiatives. Work may include fact sheets, message maps, Q&As, scripts, issue briefs, web content, email products, presentations, success stories, and strategic message plans that meet CDC clearance, plain-language, citation, and Section 508 requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop communication plans, message maps, creative briefs, talking points, Q&As, and dissemination strategies.
- Create fact sheets, issue briefs, web content, email products, presentations, scripts, success stories, and outreach materials.
- Translate scientific, programmatic, and evaluation information into audience-appropriate language.
- Coordinate with CDC subject matter experts, leadership, recipients, and partner organizations.
- Apply CDC plain-language, health-literacy, citation, clearance, and Section 508 requirements.
- Track communication requests, urgent deliverables, review cycles, dissemination, and outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience developing strategic, scientific, health, or public-sector communications for varied audiences. Experience producing evidence-based materials, coordinating technical review and clearance, applying plain-language and health-literacy principles, developing digital and print products, and meeting Section 508 accessibility requirements is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, timely, and high-quality work in a multidisciplinary, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration, organization, judgment, and client-service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting CDC, HHS, another federal health agency, a public health recipient network, or a comparable mission-focused organization.
