Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) is an active member of the Substance UseProgram and provides peer support services to participants with Substance Use and
serious/chronic mental illness. Under the guidance of the supervisor of the Substance Use
Disorder (SUD) program, the CPRS will function as a role model to peers; exhibiting
competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as participants’ advocate. Will
provide information and peer support for participants in Oriented Healthcare’s outpatient SUD
program. Additional responsibilities include working with an interdisciplinary team to develop
and implement a treatment plan, teach and model the value of every individual’s recovery
experience, and providing outreach services to non-adherent participants by assessing
structural barriers to care in order to address and develop an action plan to eliminate such
barriers.
Requirements: Must be certified as a Peer Recovery Specialist. Must be registered with the
Maryland Addiction Behavioral Health Professional Certification Board. Up to date on all
licensure requirements and mandates.
RESPONSIBILITIES
● Being knowledgeable on all the up to date on trainings, strategies and approaches to
supporting recovery.
● Attend community meetings focused on substance use disorders, treatment and
prevention efforts
● Interact with participants on a daily basis to discuss ways to cope and potentially.
incorporate methods, such as 12-step programs, to help clients toward recovery.
● Assist participants in working with their assigned therapist to determine the steps they
need to take in order to achieve their recovery goals.
● Utilizing tools such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) will be responsible
for facilitating two Peer Support Groups sessions to teach participants how to identify
and combat negative self-talk and how to identify and overcome fears by providing a
forum which allows group members to share their experience.
● Use literature, media, other tools to help participants learn to identify their strength and
combat the challenges of addiction and mental illness.
● Assist the participants in obtaining community services to support the individual
participant recovery needs.
● Lead and promote the four “Smoking Cessation” groups annually (If applicable)

● Collaborating with counselors

● Overseeing the weekly participant Orientation sessions that are held during the morning
and evening hours to meet with new participants in order to evaluate their health and
substance problem.
● To facilitate group activities within the community as exercises, to promote healthy social
interaction which will support recovery efforts in everyday circumstances.
● Accompany participants to appointments that are a part of their treatment plan
● Help link participants to vocational, and employment and training programs
● Supporting participants daily attendance in SUD group session by
○ pre-group follow up calls
○ transportation to group session
PT and FT available $500 sign on bonus after training completion.
