The Director of Traditional Worship will lead and cultivate the traditional worship life of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale. This position will create spaces of Christ-centered connection that inspire people of all ages to explore faith in open and honest ways. Through music, liturgy, and pastoral presence, the Director will help the congregation encounter God with beauty, depth, and joy. Working collaboratively with pastors, musicians, staff, and volunteers, this person will ensure that worship at First Pres reflects theological integrity, artistic excellence, and a spirit of hospitality.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Deep personal faith and commitment to Christ, the Church, and the mission of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale.
Growing relationship with Jesus Christ demonstrated through commitment to worshipping, learning, giving and serving.
Bachelor’s degree in music or related field required, master’s degree preferred.
Proven experience directing choral and congregational music in a church setting.
Proficiency in choral and orchestral conducting and a strong understanding of sacred music traditions.
Skilled in worship planning, liturgy, and integration of the arts in congregational life.
Possesses a passion for seeing people of all ages being engaged in music.
Strong administrative, communication, pastoral and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide creative and pastoral leadership for all traditional worship services in collaboration with the Pastor/Head of Staff and worship planning team.
Provide for the direction of the Cathedral and Kirk Singer Choirs (6th grade thru adult), leading rehearsals, worship participation, and special performances.
Supervise and support the traditional music staff, including organist, accompanists, and section leaders.
Oversee the church’s concert series, coordinating guest artists and community engagement through the arts.
Plan and prepare seasonal and special services (Advent, Holy Week, Easter, etc.) that engage the congregation in meaningful worship.
Collaborate closely with the Directors of Contemporary Worship, Connections, and Communications.
Communications, and other staff to ensure unity and excellence across all worship expressions.
Recruit, equip, and care for volunteers, fostering intergenerational participation and spiritual growth.
Manage worship and music budgets, maintain the music library, and ensure copyright/licensing compliance.
Serve as a pastoral presence within the worship and music ministries, offering care, encouragement, and guidance to those who serve.
