Description
OverviewThe GAM is seeking a dedicated and highly capable Tournament Manager to join our Tournament Operations Team. This individual will help lead the planning and execution of championships across Michigan, with an emphasis on junior competitions, rules officiating, volunteer engagement, and serving as the Official in Charge at assigned events.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of tournament administration, the Rules of Golf, and the USGA-AGA partnership model. However, we welcome applicants at varying levels of experience; responsibilities and title may be adjusted based on qualifications. Above all, we seek a professional who embodies integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering exceptional championship experiences.
Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree preferred; golf-specific education or equivalent experience considered
- Demonstrated experience in tournament operations, golf administration, or rules officiating is highly valued; experience serving as the primary Official in Charge for tournaments is an asset
- Working knowledge of the USGA, the AGA network, and systems such as GHIN is an asset
- Experience with the administrative side of Golf Genius software for tournament management is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong organizational and communication skills, including the ability to lead volunteers and interact professionally with players and club personnel
- Proven work ethic and ability to perform independently in a fast-paced environment
- Comfort performing physical duties outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- A growth mindset, desire to deepen expertise in the Rules of Golf, and willingness to attend USGA professional development opportunities
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead and support all aspects of tournament preparation, including course setup (hole locations, tee placements, marking of penalty areas, writing the notice to competitors, etc.)
- Act as Official in Charge and/or rules official for assigned events once trained and prepared
- Coordinate tournament communications with players, host clubs, and volunteers
- Assist with scheduling, management, and engagement of GAM's volunteer community
- Support tournament registration processes and scoring functions
- Collaborate with golf facilities and maintain strong relationships with club staff across the state
- Represent the GAM and uphold its championship standards and USGA-aligned practices
- Contribute to continuous improvement in tournament operations, technology, and customer service
