Title: Math Instructor – Math & Science Specialty Program
Reports to: Math & Science Chair and Vice President of Specialty & Academic Studies
Job Description: Qualified & knowledgeable math instructors, Grades 10-12
Job Goal: To nurture students in their mathematical journey by facilitating different
instructional methods.
Performance Responsibilities:
Demonstrates intense passion and expertise in math and instills that passion in students.
Creates and maintains high standards and expectations for student performance, work, and habits of mind.
Actively implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize technology like graphing calculators, etc.
Develops curriculum in scope and sequences that addresses learning goals.
Demonstrates commitment to high quality work from self and students.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
Evaluates the educational program and student progress.
Communicates with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.
Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communications.
Maintains and submits records and reports.
Works with all other instructors to facilitate flexible test dates and class attendance to benefit students.
Assists in the identification and selection of qualified students for the Math & Science specialty program.
Collaborates with faculty of the Math & Science specialty program to develop and implement statewide recruitment and community outreach/service programs.
Mentors/advises Math & Science seniors in their senior research projects.
Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board, state, and federal rules and regulations.
Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
Utilizes and communicates with internal technology such as emails, grade reporting, etc.
Requirements:
Familiarity with the Art of Problem Solving curriculum and the American Mathematics Competition (AMC)/AIME
Supports and coaches sophomore, junior, and senior level math competition courses.
Experience in teaching AP Calculus BC and beyond.
Additional Extra-Curricular Responsibilities:
Assists with running the annual ASFA Math Tournament
Assists with coaching and chaperoning duties for various in-state and out-of-state math competitions.
Participates/works in the following Math & Science specialty program events: ASFA Open House, ASFA STEM EXPO, and ASFA Senior Research Symposium
Qualifications:
Required
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in mathematics from an accredited college or university
Experience in teaching gifted students
Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Math & Science Chair may find appropriate and acceptable
Desired
At least 8 years’ experience in secondary mathematics teaching
A master’s degree or beyond in mathematics from an accredited college or university
National Board Certification in Adult and Young Adolescence Mathematics
Salary: Negotiable based on degree and experience; RSA and PEEHIP insurance
Service term: Ten months (186 days); Start Date August 3, 2026
