The mission of Financial Beginnings is to empower youth and adults to take control of their financial futures. FB fulfills this mission by extending programming to more communities via local, on-the-ground teams. These teams, along with their volunteer networks, deliver our financial education programming that is continually tested, revised, and improved to ensure mission alignment and participant impact.

Role Summary:
Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the entire Financial Beginnings team, the Senior Director of Brand & Marketing will develop and execute comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that advance our mission and support revenue generation and program growth. This role requires a strategic leader who can think big-picture while also rolling up their sleeves to execute. As a senior leader, you will be responsible for building our brand presence, creating compelling content, managing digital channels, and developing marketing materials that resonate with both B2B and nonprofit mission-driven audiences. This position will be a part of the senior leadership team, working in close partnership with other senior leaders and staff (supervises 1 FTE) to create materials that support partnership development and growth.
Strategic Brand Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive brand strategy that positions Financial Beginnings as a leader in financial education and empowerment
- Ensure brand consistency across all channels, materials, and communications
- Create and maintain brand guidelines, messaging frameworks, and visual identity standards
- Lead market research and competitive analysis to inform positioning and messaging strategies
Marketing Execution & Content Development
- Design and produce marketing collateral including presentations, one-pagers and flyers, impact reports, and other relevant external marketing materials
- Write compelling copy for various audiences including corporate and program partners, foundations, donors, community members, and program participants
- Manage website content, ensuring information is current, compelling, and optimized for search
- Develop email marketing campaigns and newsletters to engage various stakeholder groups
- Lead the planning and execution of April Financial Literacy Month activities
Partnership Marketing Support
- Create campaigns that drive brand recognition and partnership inquiries from businesses, especially partners in the financial industry including banks, credit unions, insurance companies, fintech, etc.
- Collaborate closely with the revenue and program teams to create compelling materials that support revenue generation and program growth
- Create impact reports and success stories that demonstrate program effectiveness to corporate partners
Digital Marketing & Social Media
- Develop and execute social media strategy across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and other relevant platforms
- Create content calendar and manage day-to-day posting, engagement, and community management
- Monitor and report on digital marketing metrics and adjust strategies based on performance data
- Explore and implement emerging digital marketing opportunities including paid social, SEO/SEM, and content marketing
Public Relations & Communications
- Develop and maintain relationships with media contacts and identify PR opportunities
- Write and distribute press releases, media kits, and other external communications
- Manage internal communications to keep staff informed and aligned
- Serve as a brand ambassador, representing Financial Beginnings at events and in the community
- All other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 7+ years of progressive marketing and communications experience with a strong mix of both B2B and nonprofit sectors
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing strategies that support organizational growth and revenue generation
- Experience creating marketing materials specifically for corporate partnerships
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences
- Demonstrated expertise in digital marketing including social media management, email marketing, and website content management
- Experience with marketing automation platforms, CRM systems (preferably HubSpot), and analytics tools
- Senior-level strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution capabilities—comfortable both developing strategy and implementing tactics
- Self-starter who can work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Highly organized with strong project management skills and attention to detail
- Ability to thrive and adapt to a changing environment.
- Comfortable collaborating online and/or working remotely with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficient computer and technology skills - Microsoft Office, G Suite, Box, CRM databases, etc.
Special Considerations and Preferences
- Experience building a marketing function from the ground up or serving as a sole marketing leader
- Track record of creating content that resonates with both corporate decision-makers and mission-driven constituents
- A positive and collegial attitude.
- Recognition of education's value; passion for working with community and underserved populations.
- Strong mission and values alignment
- Background in financial services, fintech, or financial education/literacy sectors a plus, but not required
- Understanding of personal finance fundamentals, preferred, but not required.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish a plus but not required.
- Preference for hiring people who reside in CA, FL, IA, NE, OR, or WA.
Compensation, Benefits and Work Details:
- Pay Range: Salaries at Financial Beginnings are based on experience and cost of living in your working location. e.g.:
- The annual salary range for this role, if you live in Portland, OR or Chicago, IL is $93,000- $110,000
- The annual salary range for this role, if you live in Seattle, WA or San Diego, CA is $115,000-$135,000
- The annual salary range for this role, if you live in Houston, TX or Minneapolis, MN is $74,000- $88,000
- This job is classified as exempt.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours/week, hours can be flexible around core meeting times. Occasional need for evening and/or weekend meetings or events.
- Status: Full-time, exempt
- Travel: Minimal, primarily for team gatherings in Portland, OR and occasional conferences or events

Many Financial Beginnings staff and teams currently work 100% remotely with those staff residing in the Portland, OR metro area working periodically in the Financial Beginnings headquarters office. Staff working 100% remotely will visit the organization’s home office in Portland, OR at least four times a year.
