Santacruz Land Acquisitions (SLA) is looking for an entry level Right of Way Agent to join our team. The agent will work in numerous disciplines throughout the right-of-way project lifecycle in support of the Project Manager (PM) and other members of the team. The Agent will be acquiring property rights for government highway and infrastructure projects.

Overview of Duties:
- Assist in negotiations and acquisition of real estate property impacted by VDOT and local municipality public improvement projects
- Communicate and meet with property owners to explain the right-of-way process, their rights under eminent domain, review the valuation process and the offer from the agency and the process to complete acquisition process
- Document all contacts with property owners (mail, telephone, e-mail, personal visits) in our right-of-way database
- Review engineering drawings and project planning documents to understand purpose of project and proposed improvements (this will be taught)
- Examine title commitments and supporting documentation (easements, deeds, legal descriptions, permits, agreements, contracts) in order to determine potential issues in the acquisition process and to develop title clearance tasks (this will be taught)
- Determine ownership from online public records and contact information from various sources
- Perform general administrative / clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, attending meetings, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents for file management, verbal and written communications with customers; customer service and related functions

Requirements
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution or years of relevant experience
- Strong attention to detail in the preparation of schedules and reports.
- Able to exhibit proactive, professional behavior with a strong work ethic.
- Able to work in a fast paced, time and data critical environment.
- Able to handle changing priorities.
- Excellent problem solving and planning skills.
- Good time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Able to work independently with some supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
- Commitment to complete assigned courses relating to the right-of-way negotiation process offered by the International Right of Way Association
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to clearly communicate and exchange information in person, via phone and email. Substantial repetitive movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers due to high computer usage and typing. Expected to spend long spans of time in front of a computer screen. This role requires the employee to occasionally travel to meet with property owner or clients which involves time driving. While meeting with clients and vendors, will need to be outdoors traversing different types of landscapes. May be exposed to the elements (heat, rain, snow, cold).
License/Certification: Valid Driver's License and vehicle are required
