About this role:
The Manager, Championships will play a critical role in the planning and execution of the U.S. Adaptive Open, maintaining a balanced portfolio of responsibilities across both outside-the-ropes operations and inside-the-ropes competition support. This role also supports the Championship Director of the U.S. Adaptive Open by representing the USGA and contributing to projects in the Adaptive Golf space worldwide. Reporting to the Director, Championships of the U.S. Adaptive Open, this person will work closely with host clubs, primarily on outside-the-ropes matters and the championship build, as well as volunteers, other USGA departments, and championship officials to deliver best-in-class championship experiences. The role also contributes to broader departmental initiatives, including projects within the Adaptive Golf space, partnering with the Championship Director on internal and external Adaptive Golf efforts, managing key relationships, and supporting other USGA championships as assigned, including responsibilities related to the Rules of Golf and golf course operations.
What you'll do:
- In partnership with the Championship Director, lead the in-house administration and outside-the-ropes aspects of the U.S. Adaptive Open Championship:

- Assist with the management of championship entries, qualifying, etc.
- Serve as a main point of contact for players and foster those relationships.
- Assist with oversight of WR4GD counting events and results processing.
- Direct management and shipping of seated golf carts owned or rented for qualifying and the championship proper.

- Responsible for planning and executing multiple inside- and outside-the-ropes aspects of the U.S. Adaptive Open in collaboration with Championship Director, including:

- Serve as the primary point of contact for Rules officials, managing their registration and communications
- Manage the on-site Rules office
- Assist with Rules committee-related activities including the on-site Rules meeting
- Oversee player registration with Director, Championship Administration
- Assist Championship Director with golf course set-up matters, pace of play, and Rules
- Lead hotel and support other contract negotiations, vendor relations and host venue space allocation
- Assist club with volunteer training and administration, courtesy cars, transportation, parking, course evacuation, scoring, trophy presentation logistics, etc.

- Serve as a point of contact for the host club, local organizing committees, local, regional, and national government officials, allied golf associations, professional and international golf associations, and vendors.
- Serve as the on-site liaison with the Championships team regarding any on-course, championship-related issues.
- Manage the championship build set-up and breakdown.
- Help establish a five-year outline and strategy for continued success and improvement of the championship.
- Assist in future site evaluations for the U.S. Adaptive Open.
- Serve as a point of contact for USA event organizers and attend some of these competitions each year.
- Manage the Adaptive Golf Handbook with updates and other additional outward facing materials that assist AGAs and others worldwide.
- Support the Championship Director of the U.S. Adaptive Open in representing the USGA and working on projects in the Adaptive Golf space, worldwide.
- Assist in the conduct of other USGA Championships as assigned. Duties may include: course marking, course set-up, pace of play administrator and serving as a Rules official.
Where you'll be:
This role will be based at our Liberty Corner, NJ campus on a hybrid schedule. Employees are expected to spend 3 days per week working in the office, between Monday - Thursday. Remote candidates will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The Manager, Championships will be expected to travel 80-100 days per year.
What you bring:
- Bachelors degree
- 4+ years work experience in golf tournament administration or related field
- Experience conducting Amateur championships at the local or state level
- Experience in Adaptive Golf championships is strongly preferred
- Established record of experience in working closely with key partners in the administration of USGA championships, i.e. Allied Golf Association and USGA Committee members
- Must be knowledgeable in the Rules of Golf and its clarifications (score of 90 or higher on PGA/USGA Rules Exam preferred)
- Experience in golf course set-up and marking preferred
- Ability to solve problems and think creatively to identify potential issues and solutions
- Ability to lead and communicate well with others, particularly host club staff and host committees, Rules officials and vendors
- Willingness to work long hours during championship season
- Ability to travel approximately 80-100 days per year, including international travel
Level: Manager
Job Location: Liberty Corner, NJ
Salary Range: $68,000 - $80,000
The annual base salary range for this position is $68,000 - $80,000. This range represents what we reasonably expect to pay as starting base compensation for this role. Compensation is based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, and relevant certifications. In addition to your base compensation, the USGA provides competitive benefit offerings for all full-time employees.
