Position Summary
The Grant Writer is an on-site or remote role responsible for identifying, researching, and securing funding opportunities that advance Favor International’s mission. This position develops compelling letters of inquiry, full grant proposals, and grant reports; manages grant-related records and calendars; and collaborates closely with on-site staff and leadership to align funding opportunities with organizational priorities.
The Grant Writer will work with the rest of the Grant Services team to ensure high-quality submissions, effective grant management, timely communication, and strong alignment with Favor’s Christian mission and African ministry focus.
Reports To: Executive Director
Work Environment: On-site or remote, collaborative office setting with regular in-person meetings and coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Prospect Identification
Study and understand Favor International’s history, programs, impact areas, and funding needs.
Identify and research prospective foundations, agencies, and other funding sources aligned with Favor’s Christian mission and ministry priorities.
Maintain and update a Master Grant Calendar tracking:
- Proposal and LOI deadlines
- Submission dates and statuses
- Reporting and renewal requirements
- Key funder interactions and touchpoints
Monitor trends and changes in the grant landscape, particularly within Christian and international development philanthropy.
Grant Proposal Development
Draft clear, compelling, and tailored:
- Letters of Inquiry (LOIs)
- Full grant proposal
- Online grant applications
Articulate Favor’s vision, mission, Christian values, and program impact effectively in all written materials.
Collaborate in person with program and finance staff to:
- Gather narratives, program descriptions, outputs, and outcomes
- Collect data, metrics, and impact stories
- Develop and refine budgets and budget justifications aligned with funder guidelines
Assemble and format all required attachments, including organizational documents, financials, and supplemental materials.
Grant Reporting & Compliance
Draft and submit timely, accurate grant reports that demonstrate use of funds, outcomes, and impact.
Coordinate with internal teams to collect data, financials, stories, and documentation needed for reports.
Ensure all proposals, reports, and communications adhere to funder guidelines, deadlines, and compliance expectations.
Grant Management & Documentation
Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready grant files (digital and, where needed, physical), including:
- Proposals and LOIs
- Award letters and agreements
- Reports and correspondence
Enter and update information in internal systems (e.g., CRM, grant tracker, spreadsheets) with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.
Support internal tracking of grant budgets, expenses, and allocations; prepare brief internal summaries for leadership as needed.
Collaboration & Communication
Work on-site with the Grant Services Director, Assistant Director of Grant Services, program leaders, finance, partner care, and marketing/communications teams.
Coordinate with external partners and funders to:
- Clarify guidelines and requirements
- Obtain templates and instructions
- Confirm receipt of submissions and reports
Provide clear, concise updates to internal stakeholders on:
- Upcoming deadlines
- Submission status
- Reporting and renewal timelines
Planning, Strategy & Continuous Improvement
Participate in on-site planning meetings to understand upcoming projects, funding gaps, and strategic priorities.
Help align organizational needs with high-potential funding opportunities.
Contribute to the development and refinement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for grant workflows.
Provide proofreading and editing support for internal grant-related documents to ensure clarity, consistency, and quality.
Qualifications
Experience
Minimum 5 years of proven experience in grant writing for nonprofit organizations, with a successful track record of securing funding.
Experience with Christian-based, international, or global ministries strongly preferred.
Familiarity with the full grant lifecycle: prospect research, proposal development, award management, and reporting.
Knowledge
Strong understanding of philanthropic foundations and standard grantmaking practices.
Knowledge of grant compliance, reporting requirements, and funder expectations.
Understanding of Christian nonprofit work and the unique nature of ministry-focused organizations.
Skills
Writing & Communication:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to convey complex ideas clearly, concisely, and persuasively.
- Strong editing and proofreading abilities with high attention to detail.
Research & Analysis:
- Strong research skills for identifying and assessing prospective funders.
- Ability to synthesize program information and data into strategic, funder-ready narratives.
Organization & Time Management:
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills in a busy on-site environment.
Technical Proficiency:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and/or Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive).
- Experience with donor management and/or grant management systems (e.g., Blackbaud or similar CRM platforms).
- Familiarity with grants management tools such as Instrumentl or other prospecting platforms is a plus.
- Comfortable using shared drives and basic PDF/e-signature tools.

Basic familiarity with PDF editors and e-signature tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, DocuSign)
