Description
Position OverviewThe General Maintenance Worker is responsible for the operation of Transportation Services equipment. This position performs weekly maintenance of all equipment, assures supplies are in stock, and monthly inspections of our facilities. This position will also be responsible for the cleaning and general up-keep of the Transportation Services office with the help of the Universities Custodial team. This position is also responsible for trash duties in garages/parking lots. This position requires driving of a state issued vehicle and requires a valid driver's license on date of hire and throughout employment.
Work schedule is: Monday-Friday 7:00am -4:00 pm.

Job Description
35% Transportation Services Operations & Equipment Maintenance:
- Ensure proper upkeep and efficient operation of all Transportation Services equipment, including magnetic pay-on-foot stations and garage gate systems.
- Maintain hardware components such as card readers, and gate arms.
- Perform weekly cleaning and recommended maintenance on all equipment.
- Monitor and restock consumable supplies (receipt rolls, preprinted report tape, and enforcement report tape) to ensure uninterrupted operations
- Assist with Transportation Services booth operations by providing break coverage and filling in when staffing levels require.
- Assist with working athletic and other special events as requested.
- Sell parking spaces, set up barricades, make and install preemption and operational signage, direct traffic in lots and restrict the flow of traffic.
- Operate the use of various vehicles such as a Kubota RTV, Toyota Tacoma, Ram half ton pickup, three quarter ton Chevrolet flatbed or others.
- Coordinate and staff scheduled garage wash-downs, including providing advance notifications.
- Conduct monthly inspections for all facilities to ensure they are maintained and in good condition.
- Oversee general maintenance tasks such as parking lot striping, signage, trash removal, lawn care, and snow removal as needed.
- Ensure all safety and operational features-garage lighting, stair tower lighting, mirrors, and safety gates-are functional and in place.
- Maintain cleanliness and general upkeep of the Transportation Services office, parking lots, and garages in collaboration with the Custodian.
- Manage upkeep of signage all over campus in conjunction with General Maintenance Repair Technician staff.
- Installation of KU Transportation Services signage.
Position Requirements
- Reach, grasp, lift, carry and place moderately heavy loads frequently and heavy loads occasionally (up to 75 lbs) with or without accommodation.
- Perform work above normal heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures -both hot and cold, inside and outdoors.
- Operate vehicles in transporting self and materials to job sites.
- Work overtime and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
- Report to work during declared periods of inclement weather.
- Must digitally enter work order information and perform other electronic communications as required.
- Must have a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout entirety of employment.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or completion of G.E.D. equivalency.
- Six months of experience in any trades area. (Note: An associate's degree or vocational school certificate may replace this experience.)
- Valid driver's license by the time of hire and maintain the license throughout employment.
