Description
Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) is hiring an experienced reporter to cover the environment, climate, and
agricultural resources of Coastal and South Georgia and to report on the impact of the changing planet on the people,
places and environments of the region. This position is based in Savannah and will have significant editorial and
creative autonomy while operating under GPB’s editorial standards and review process. The reporter will be
expected to attend daily news meetings, pitch stories and participate in edit sessions with editorial supervisors while
working an average of approximately 20 hours per week. They will be expected to file for GPB News across radio,
digital and social media. This position will report to GPB’s News Director. GPB is a statewide dual licensee
comprised of 9 PBS television stations and 22 NPR radio stations that broadcast across the state of Georgia.
Requirements
Candidate Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications or related field or equivalent education, training, and
experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
Minimum of two years reporting and writing experience for a news organization
Experience covering climate and environmental issues strongly preferred
Experience in Public Media a plus
Ability to produce informative and engaging stories across GPB’s digital, audio and social media platforms
under deadline
Experience with audio editing software such as Adobe Audition
Experience with photography and video production a plus
Able to write clearly and effectively using AP style
Ability to develop a network of sources and contacts and establish working relationships with them
Ability to remain current on issues impacting Georgia’s climate and environment
Ability to work collaboratively with other reporters and editors
Ability to work independently with limited daily oversight
Strong editorial judgment and experience producing content for clearly defined audiences.
Access to a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver’s license to cover stories across the region
